Admission to a secondary school is an important step for a young person and potentially an anxious time for parents and carers. The academy wishes to ensure that each child can be offered a suitable education to meet their needs, without prejudicing the welfare and education of other children in the school.
Planned Admission Number (PAN) - 240
Where more applications are received than places available, the following oversubscription criteria will be used to determine the allocation of places:
1. Looked after children and children who were previously looked after but immediately became subject to adoption, a child arrangements order, or a special guardianship order. This includes children who have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. Children with a sibling already attending the preferred school and who will still be attending at the time of admission.
3. Children of Staff – Where the member of staff has been employed at Halewood Academy for 2 or more years at the time of application, or the member of staff was recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage. Parent(s)/carer(s) must state the employee’s name on their admission application form. Details will be validated by the school.
4. Children attending a named area partnership primary school.
5.Distance from the child’s home to school measured in a straight line. Those living nearest the school have priority.
Determined Admission Arrangements 2025/26
Coordinated Secondary Admissions Scheme 2025-26
The Local Authority (LA) co-ordinate the admissions for all Knowsley Secondary Schools. Parents must apply to their home authority (the authority where they live).
For Knowsley residents please click HERE for the admissions procedures and access to the online application.
For Liverpool residents please click HERE for the admissions procedures.
Currently Halewood Academy operates a waiting list for year groups for children whose initial application is refused. Should places become available later in the year then the list will be reviewed. Length of time on the list does not give additional priority; the school's normal admissions priorities will be followed.
If a child is refused a place then parents/carers have the right to appeal.
Appeals
The deadline for submitting appeals will be Sunday 30th March 2025.
All unsuccessful applicants have the right to appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel in accordance with the School Admissions Appeals Code 2022.
