What will I study in English?

Year 7

Students will undertake various tasks in reading, writing speaking and listening.  Additionally basic literacy skills and inference and deduction skills are targeted within each scheme of work.  There will be opportunities to write in a variety of styles. You will be encouraged to write creatively and develop skills in discursive and writing for everyday life. You will take part in a variety of experiences to develop Speaking and Listening including drama and group work.

Year 8

You will continue to build your skills in each key areas in English. You will undertake various tasks in reading, writing speaking and listening.  Additionally basic literacy skills and inference and deduction skills are targeted within each scheme of work.

Creative and descriptive writing / Superhero / Scene of the Crime / Greek Myths and Legends / Other Cultures Poetry / Range of literary texts / Text Books / Skills Builders / Building Skills in English

Year 9

Students will continue to develop their  knowledge of  reading, writing speaking and listening.  Additionally, more emphasis will be placed on basic literacy skills and inference and deduction skills are continually targeted within each scheme of work.

There will be opportunities to write in a variety of styles. Students will be encouraged to write creatively and develop skills in discursive writing.

There will also be a focus on preparing students for English GCSE in Years 10 and 11. Students will be expected to offer personal and critical responses through extended writing throughout the year.

Students will take part in a variety of experiences to develop Speaking and Listening including drama and group work.
