Race For Life

Halewood Academy students, parents and staff joined together for our inaugural Race for Life to raise funds for Cancer Research.  We are delighted to announce that we have raised the amazing total of £3079.62!  This is an incredible achievement! Over 200 students, parents and staff ran the 3km course around the Academy on Friday 31 March.  Back in February Year 8 student and Junior Leadership Team member, Lillie Beth Kelly, approached senior staff with the idea of supporting a charity that is fighting a disease that affects more and more of us each year.  Lillie Beth gave a presentation in Staff Briefing to enlist the support of the staff and then gave assemblies to all year groups to raise awareness of the charity and of the event she had organised.

With additional support from the Academy's canteen provider, NDS, who kindly donated bottles of water for all participants, everyone was raring to go on a sunny Friday afternoon.  Our team of marshalls, led by Mrs Chambers, ensured the course was safe and participants were supported around the course.  It was wonderful to see parents running the race and others supporting their children as they ran the race.  Participants were sponsored by friends and family and students donated earlier in the day to be able to wear their own clothes for the day.  We are hoping to raise as much as we can for such a great cause.  Mr Evans, who is running the Liverpool Marathon in May in support of the same charity was delighted with the response to the event. "It has been an amazing way to finish a long term.  Seeing so many students and parents along with lots of staff take part will be one of the highlights of the year.  Halewood students always pull out all the stops to raise money for charities but today has shown why we are so proud of them!"

Congratulations to Ben Ellis of Year 10 for finishing first with blistering pace closely followed by Vice Principal, Mr McKeegan.  Hard luck Sir!  All runners received a well earned medal - donated by Cancer Research.
